Architectural Concepts at Old Greenwood
|
Ward Young Architecture & Planning:
At Settler's Lane we saw the opportunity to design a
house that is inexorably tied to its site. We chose
a simple material palette of primarily stone and wood.
The stone base anchors the house to the boulder outcroppings
on site, while the wood shingles blend with the surrounding
|
 |
|
| forest. The architectural elements are aligned
along the length of the property to capture the sun and views,
while maintaining the old growth trees. We blurred the distinction
between the interior and exterior by wrapping the house around
a covered porch and fireplace, thus creating a transitional
space, which along with a large Jeffrey pine, forms an outdoor
living room. From here one can enjoy the shade of the tree,
look over the 16th green, or gaze at the view of Lookout Mountain
beyond. |
Zehren and Associates:
We see a crafted, custom home on Settlers' Lane as the opportunity
within Old Greenwood - overlooking the Jack Nicklaus Signature
Golf Course and gazing across the valley to a world-class ski
mountain. For such an opportunity we felt the home must be of
the site, rather that sitting on the site. Large, battered stone
walls grow from the homesite to form the base of the residence,
recalling the permanence and majesty of the mountain setting,
as well as the heritage of Truckee/North Tahoe architecture.
Steep, sheltering roofs provide protection from the snowfalls
that nourish the local Jeffrey pine and provide the recreational
opportunities for the area. |
| Expansive, detailed windows accommodate the
breathtaking views while recalling the lake cottages of the
area. And landscaping is brought to the home in the form of
natural vegetation transitioning to beds of beautiful wildflowers
nestled against the residence. |
 |
 |
MWA Architects:
The alpine settler's friend is sun. This homesite offers the
ideal orientation for solar access while embracing the dramatic
views to Lookout Mountain, Mt. Rose and an intimate view of
the 17th green. |
| The dramatic deep front porch greets the visitors;
the oversize door opens to immediately show a picture framed
view of the ski slopes. A few steps into the home unveil a panoramic
viewscape of the mountains as well as golf. The unique site
enables the architect to also offer outdoor living private to
the neighbors and buffered to the wind. This concept is 4,790
square feet, with a timber trussed great room, large view-filled
dining area, two master suites, two guest bathrooms and a flex
room upstairs sized to become a TV and game room or a smaller
flex room and additional bedroom. |
Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf:
With Old Greenwood's tranquil, natural setting, only one person
was considered when it came to designing the golf course at Old
Greenwood. Jack Nicklaus. His attention to detail and emphasis on
designing a course that works in harmony with the natural landscape
made him the perfect choice. With stately pines, beautiful Tahoe
scenery and the design skill of Jack Nicklaus, the golf experience
at Old Greenwood is sure to rival that of other Nicklaus masterpieces
such as Muirfield Village, Sherwood Country Club, Castle Pines,
Desert Mountain and Cabo del Sol to name but a few.
The Nicklaus name has been honored and revered on fairways and greens
worldwide for more than four decades. Known for golfing accomplishments
such as winning 20 major championship titles and being named Golfer
of the Century, Jack Nicklaus is now recognized as one of the preeminent
golf course designers worldwide. Jack Nicklaus Signature Courses
- a classification which denotes Jack's personal attention - tops
the charts for golf course real estate value. And several Nicklaus
designs have been recognized for their excellence by being listed
on both Golf Digest's and Golfweek's Top 100 lists.
Links Magazine - golf travel:
Old Greenwood in Truckee, Calif., is a new 900-acre residential
golf community just north of Lake Tahoe. It is named for Caleb Greenwood,
a mountain man in his 80s who led hundreds of pioneers across the
Truckee Route of the Sierra into California in the 1800s. A portion
of the Truckee Route is located on the property. Eighty percent
of the historic parcel will remain as permanent open space. The
community's 298 residences will have a variety of home styles, including
single-family homesites, co-ownership cabins and co-ownership vacation
townhomes.
The community will have Lake Tahoe's only Jack Nicklaus Signature
golf course (opening in 2004). The Old Greenwood course will have
99 homesites along the fairways ranging in size from a 1/2-acre
to one acre. Also in the plans are recreation amenities such as
a swim, tennis and fitness facility, a golf academy and pro shop,
a Kids' Camp with programmed activities and miles of hiking and
biking trails.
Old Greenwood is the first of four planned residential/resort communities
in the Tahoe Mountain Resorts group. East-West Partners, one of
the visionary companies behind Colorado's Beaver Creek Resort, is
developing the projects.
The communities in the group will include Old Greenwood, the new
Village at Northstar, ski-in/ski-out residences above The Village
at the Highlands, and Gray's Crossing-a golf community surrounded
by a planned Peter Jacobsen-designed golf course.
Property owners in any of the four communities can become members
of the Tahoe Mountain Club, which offers special privileges and
access to recreational facilities at all four resorts. Amenities
will include a Village Fitness Center, the Alpine Club-a members-only
club in the village, Schaffer's Camp-an on-mountain restaurant at
Northstar, Old Greenwood's Nicklaus golf course and Golf Academy,
Wild Goose Restaurant on Lake Tahoe and the Coyote Moon Golf Course.
Peter Jacobsen:
Director of Golf for Tahoe Mountain Club
Peter Jacobsen knows golf. He's been an active member of the
PGA TOUR since 1977 and has earned six TOUR victories throughout
his career. And together with former TOUR player Jim Hardy, Peter
has designed a number of golf courses including The Oregon Golf
Club near Portland, Oregon, Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress, Texas
and Moorpark Country Club in Moorpark, California.
It's Jacobsen's wealth of knowledge and passion for the game of
golf that led East West Partners to select him as Director of Golf
for Tahoe Mountain Club (TMC). Jacobsen will oversee golf operations
for TMC's three championship golf courses in Truckee: Coyote Moon,
designed by Sacramento native Brad Bell, Old Greenwood, a Jack Nicklaus
Signature Golf Course, and Gray's Crossing, to be designed by the
Jacobsen-Hardy team.
Tahoe Mountain Club Golf:
As an owner at Old Greenwood, you'll have the opportunity to join
the Tahoe Mountain Club. Membership includes privileges at The Jack
Nicklaus Signature Course at Old Greenwood in addition to privileges
at the stunning and completed Coyote Moon Golf Course and the planned
Gray's Crossing Golf Course. Together, these three outstanding courses
will offer the premier Tahoe golf experience.
East West Partners:
The vision for Old Greenwood is being realized and managed by the
experienced team at East West Partners. This acclaimed group has
a proven track record for creating world-class, four-season resorts,
such as Beaver Creek in Colorado, while remaining environmentally
sensitive. In addition to their dedication in creating a premier
luxury community, East West Partners has developed a voluntary program
to integrate sustainability into Old Greenwood's design, construction,
and operation. It is a program of "green" practices rarely
applied on such a comprehensive basis in real estate development
and operations.
